Trail Riding

Horses have been an integral part of our operation for over 20 years and some of our best horses have been with us that long. Almost all have been born and raised by us and are at home no matter which area we go to. For you this means a safe and enjoyable adventure. For the horse it means he or she is relaxed and actually is enjoying life. For me it means life is easier because everybody is enjoying themselves.

There are so many places to see, and things to do that it is hard to put together a best trip. Following are just some of the things you could do.

Round Up and Trail In

This is a quick adventure, giving you an overview of a guides life.

Day one has you helping round up the horses and heading up the road with the first load. You spend the night camped by the Hyland River

Day two has the second load arriving with the rest of the horses. We then pack up and head for Ceaser. Five to seven hours and many river crossings later you arrive with all 30 head of horses at our beautiful Ceaser Lake Lodge. Hopefully the grizzly won’t have broken in and we can quickly settle in for the night. Next morning we start shoeing horses and if necessary cleaning up the camp. You can watch, fish, paddle around the lake, eagle watch or just relax. We often will take a ride in the afternoon to a mineral lick to see how the animals made the winter. Goats and caribou are almost always spotted here. Sheep, moose and grizzly are often seen.

Day four we pack up, head across the high plateau to Lowell Creek where a jet boat is waiting to take you back to civilization. The ride is 4 hours of endless beauty. The jet boat ride is a relaxing journey down Ceaser Creek. Many wildlife photo op’s present themselves on this river so your camera should remain handy. You would be back in town that evening.

Dates vary year to year but are generally the first week in July. Cost is $500.00 per person

All our regular trail rides start with us meeting you in Watson Lake. We would then drive the 110 miles to where a jet boat would take us to the first camp at Lowell Creek. Next morning we would head off for the start of our adventure. It would depend what your interests are where we would head. We can specialize in wildlife photography or viewing, fly fishing, trail riding or combine some of each. The potential is endless

Some of the trips are as follows

Fly fishing on the Coal. May very well be some of the worlds best greyling fishing in an absolutely gorgeous mountain setting. Need five days, or three if you fly into Ceaser Lake.

Mountain goat and other wildlife photography. Travel to a mineral lick where the area's animals gather at this time. Caribou and goats are abundant but dall sheep, moose and grizzly are also common. Need four days, but five is better.

Dall sheep and other wildlife photography. Travel to another mineral lick which sheep frequent. Six or seven days are needed.

Scenic trail rides taking one to 10 days to complete a circuit provides you with opportunities to do all the above and more.

The last day is a reversal of the first with a jet boat ride and 110 mile ride back to town.

Dates are the month of July. Minimum package is three days at $600.00 per person. Extra days are $200.00 each. These include all meals and lodging after leaving Watson Lake, transportation to camp (vehicle and jet boat) and a guide per 4 clients. You need to bring your own sleeping bag, camera, rain gear etc.

Arrangements can be made to have you fly in or out by a float plane. The view is well worth the extra cost which ranges from $600.00 per person for one, $300.00 per person for 2 to $250 each for 3 or more, one way.
